Music Degrees at Mt. SAC
The AA Liberal Arts, Emphasis Music (AA) degree is designed to meet the needs of students who wish to earn an Associate level college degree while focusing on music, including its history, theory, performance and production. It is not intended or recommended for students who plan to transfer to a 4-year college or university as a music major.
The AA Transfer Degree in Music (AA-T) was created at the state level; its requirements are the same across all California Community College campuses. It meets the needs of students planning to transfer to a California State University campus to pursue a baccalaureate degree in music (i.e., a BA or BM). It is also for students who wish to earn an Associate-level college degree while completing a lower-division (e.g., freshman and sophomore) music curriculum similar to that found at many UC campuses and private universities. Generally, our students complete the degree in either two or three years.
